If you or a loved one participates in sports, that‘s great! Not only is it great exercise, but teaches patience, self-control, and team building. What’s not great though is the fact that contact sports can damage your mouth and teeth if you don’t protect them. Today’s blog talks about the importance of mouth guards and why they act as a protective barrier.

Just What is a Mouth Guard?

Mouth guards are essentially a protective appliance that is customized to fit over your teeth, anytime you play a sport. What Types of Sport’s Mouth Guards Do You Offer?

There are several types of mouth guards from which you can choose at Trinity Dental Center that are tear-resistant, comfortable, and strong. The three types of mouth guards are:

– Boil and bite mouth guards, which come in a pre-formed shape, usually altered by boiling in water, then biting into the cooled plastic to fit with your mouth.
– Customized mouth guards that your dentist can fabricate, after having taken teeth impressions; these provide the most comfortable fit, coupled with the best protection.
– Stock mouth guards – Preformed and read to wear, these less expensive mouth guards are not typically recommended, since they don’t fit very well, and can be bulky and make breathing and talking difficult.
